Edited on 2009-05-16 08:38:21 by BrianKoontz [Migrated instructions for XP]
Additions:
===Windows XP SP1/2/3===
~- Click Start / Control Panel / Network Connections / Wireless Network Connection.
~- Click "Properties" on the General tab.
~- Scroll the list of connection services/protocols to "Internet Protocol (TCP/ID)."
~- DO NOT check or uncheck any of the boxes, just SELECT that item and click "Properties".
~- If it is not already selected, Select the radio box for "Use the following DNS server addresses:"
~- Enter the IP address of the PREFERRED and/or the Alternate DNS Server from this [[http://www.opennic.glue/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=75:public-dns&catid=51:migrate-to-opennic&Itemid=82 DNS LIST]]. (Open this in a new tab or window)
<<Alternatively, you may click the "Advanced" button and enter the one or more DNS IP addresses from the DNS List. This allows you to re-arrange the order of search (preferred is top position, alternates are lower). NOTE: Using more than two DNS IP addresses here will work, but your page may not appear immediately due to longer search paths.<<::c::
~- Click OK and you're set. You may need to reboot to make these changes take effect, but most configurations will recognise them immediately.

Revision [638]

Edited on 2007-07-25 13:14:16 by AvoYager [Added OSX instructions]
Additions:
Here are some basic instructions on configuring your personal computer to access the OpenNIC Top-Level Domains (TLDs). This page has, at the moment, instructions only for (in alphabetical order, to prevent religious arguments) ""BeOS"", ""MacOS"" (with ""OpenTransport""), a set that should work with most Unix and Unix-like systems and Windows 98/NT/2K. If you've configured a different operating system to use OpenDNS, please add it to this page.
If your ISP or network administrator, for some reason, refuses to add support for OpenDNS to your network's own name servers, OpenNIC is collecting volunteers who make their OpenDNS name servers available for anyone who needs to use them.

Lists will be posted to the Announcements list, so if you need to use these public servers, please [[MailingLists subscribe to that list]].
If you need to use one of the public Tier 0 through 2 servers, and you do not personally know its administrator, you will also need to join the [[MailingLists Announcements list]] (or join the [[MailingLists Discussion list]]) so you'll get notified of any changes to the server.
