A DNS "root zone" provides domain name servers with a list of other name servers which resolve (convert domain name to IP address) domain names in differnt TLDs (Top Level Domains). OpenNIC's root zone is an aggregate of TLDs sponsored by IANA/ICANN (the familiar Internet) and of other TLDs.
